Fordite Detroit Agate Jumbo Safety Pin
This bold one-of-a-kind piece features a striking freeform Fordite gemstone set into a jumbo safety pin design. Also known as Detroit Agate, Fordite is a unique manmade material created from hardened layers of automotive paint that accumulated over time in Detroit-area auto factories. Once removed and polished, these colorful layers reveal incredible patterns and color combinations, making every piece of Fordite completely unique.
The stone is set in handcrafted sterling silver with a serrated bezel and accented with twisted decorative wire. The large stainless steel safety pin adds an edgy, industrial touch, creating a distinctive blend of automotive history, modern statement style, and artisan craftsmanship. This piece is handmade in my Southern California studio, making this design completely unique.
